Wow! The food is outstanding. Simply excellent. We also had the opportunity to meet the owner, who I must guess, is Michelle. Foolishly I forgot to ask her name...because we were busy discussing how much we enjoyed the meal. Our initial disappointment that no peach cobbler or sweet potato pie was available evaporated once we started in on the delicious meal. Fried catfish, pork chops, cornbread, collard greens, cole slaw, mac & cheese left us no room for dessert anyway. It felt like we'd been invited to Michelle's house for family dinner. The atmosphere/ambiance is nothing much to talk about but who cares?! With food like this we would have been happy eating it in our car. Highly recommend!

Just stopped by Michelle's for lunch on the way back up to the Bay from a conference and it was WELL worth it! The young lady who took our order was so sweet and extremely attentive. I was so busy running my mouth to my hubby, I didn't even know she had accidentally touched my fork when serving my drink until she quickly replaced it and apologized with a smile. Our catfish was fried to perfection, the greens were delicious, my red beans and rice were seasoned so well, and the cornbread was heavenly!!! My husband said he'll drive back just to eat there!

My family and I decided to try out Michelle's because we have not had good soul food for a long time. We ordered fried catfish, fried pork chops, side orders of mac n cheese, collard greens, sweet corn with bacon, and red beans over rice. The catfish was delicious and perfectly seasoned, not overly battered and not over cooked, but just right. The pork chops was yummy, was not over cooked, and was not overly seasoned, and had a really good taste to it. Collard greens, I don't normally order it but had a taste of it, and so far it's the best I've had. The sweet corn with bacon, definitely a different twist to add bacon, perfect match for sweet and salty which was a good combination, one take away was that it was on the watery side. The red beans and rice was normal like I've had at other places, so no complaints. Did not get a chance to taste the Mac n cheese because my son devoured it before I thought of trying it. Michelle was very sweet to let us try something new to the menu...sausage, bell peppers and onions over rice and definitely will be a good add to the menu, has a little kick of spice and would definitely recommend it. We also had the opportunity of tasting Michelle's cornbread...OMG it's yummy! You don't need butter or honey because it's perfect the way it is. And because she gave us the edges that had bits of crust, made a whole new meaning to cornbread. It was like having desert at the same time with my meal. Let me tell you...I'm not a fan of cornbread but I am a fan of Michelle's cornbread and would definitely order it again without hesitation. If we plan to visit Monterey in future I will definitely look her up because I really want to try her Oxtail and smothered pork chops. Very good soul food is hard to find and I've just found one in Monterey! The place is like a hole in the wall but don't let that discourage you from trying the food. Michelle definitely added love in her cooking that kept me focused on the food and blanket my surroundings. Last thing to add is the beautiful woman that took our order and catered to us, had a cute and sweet personality that made the perfect night
